DESCRIPTION:THERE are only a few weeks left until the winners of this year’s Cumberland Local Business Awards are announced at a gala presentation at Wenty Leagues. \n\n\n“It is a tight race\,” according to Precedent Productions managing director and Awards founder Steve Loe.\n“Our judges are always impressed by the high standard of the Cumberland Local Business Awards finalists\,” he said.\n“This year is no exception and our judges have said it has been more difficult than ever to separate this year’s award contenders and determine winners in each category.”\nMr Loe said that the high quality of the finalists came as no surprise.\n“After more than 30 years of running the Local Business Awards\, I know that businesses in the Cumberland are adaptable and hard-working\,” he said.\n“They always put their best foot forward and ensure that their customers receive outstanding products and service.\n“That is why it is also unsurprising that the Cumberland community throws its support behind those businesses both during the awards period and throughout the year.\n“While there can only be one winner in each category\, as far as I am concerned every finalist is a winner.”\nMr Loe called on the Cumberland community to recognise the generosity of the Awards’ platinum sponsor Cumberland Council and major sponsors NOVA Employment\, Wenty Leagues Club\, Stockland Merrylands and Primewest Auburn Megamall and supports sponsors Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club\, Auburn Central and Merrylands Chamber of Commerce.\nThis year’s category winners will be announced at Cumberland Local Business Awards presentation evening on Tuesday\, June 4\, at Wenty Leagues.\n“The presentation features wonderful entertainment\, with local dignitaries in attendance\, but the real stars of the show are the finalists and winners\,” Mr Loe said.\nFor more information about the Local Business Awards\, call 8577 5060 or visit thebusinessawards.com.

DESCRIPTION:EVERYONE is being urged to buy local and support small business. \n\n\nHighlighting the vital role of small businesses in the nation’s economic recovery and in keeping communities thriving\, the ‘Go Local First’ initiative is funded by the Federal Government and coordinated by the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA).\nMinister for Employment\, Skills\, Small and Family Business\, Senator Michaelia Cash described the country’s 3.5 million small businesses as “the heartbeat of their local communities”.\n“When they thrive\, communities thrive and the national economy prospers\,” she said.\nAlso urging people to consider local shops if they go out\, Merrylands Chamber of Commerce president Immanuel Selvaraj says their members\, who are spread across Cumberland\, are continuing to face hardship due to the pandemic.\n“The Chamber would like to highlight that every time consumers visit a corner store or a local retail store\, a local family benefits\,” he said.\n“Retail stores have been one of the hardest hit sectors during this pandemic due to closures.”\nHe added that the Chamber had a panel planned for September to discuss strategies to help businesses get back on their feet.\nBusiness owners in Cumberland also pointed to some other benefits for shoppers\, with Sarah from Empire Flooring in Regents Park\, saying buying close to home is “easy and less time is wasted”.\nNicole from Advance Professional public accountants and registered tax agents\, says that while the Auburn town centre is always busy\, especially around the train station\, that is one of the reasons it is a good place to shop.\nShe said the wide variety of groceries and food on offer along with the number of professional services on offer\, also made it very convenient.\n“While you are doing your grocery shopping\, you can drop in and get your tax done\,” she said.
